‘Build Me Up’

Dir: Steve Lawson I Prod: Emma Hanson I DOP: Jamie Touche I Production Designer: Kate Beard I NFTS I 2021

100 years in the future, the Earth is cold and barren. Robot siblings Vera and Sprocket have just lost their creator. As they struggle to process their grief, the dangers of their world manifest. Can they regain sight of what they still have, in order to avert their own fates?

‘Build Me Up’ is set within a futuristic ice age world, predominantly within the pivotal vehicle set ‘The Timekeeper’. Most sets were built at 1:7 scale, amassing to 360 immersive sets reaching 9ft long. Landscapes and shots of the exterior vehicle were achieved with a 1:50 scale miniature built by the wonderful model making team. All sets and vehicles were designed by Kate herself. She also had keen input in the character design of the two robots - Sprocket and Vera. These were hand-sculpted and moulded around adjusted armature & Lego pieces.
